The addition of an MBA program exclusively for law firm managers is a valuable contribution to the legal community. Now if Bruce could just get SUNY/Stone Brook to go online with their program, we would really have something. I would like to see an MBA program targeted to midsized firm managers that is accessible anytime/anywhere.
Midsized law firms are actually doing pretty well financially due to the intrinsic favorable characteristics of a law firm as a business. At the same time, virtually all firms are underperforming compared to what they could be achieving. Most are not paying enough attention to continuity issues. They tend to be accidentally successful, failing to have enough forward-looking systems to see a train wreck that might be just around the corner. In a nutshell, they lack trained management skills.
